Oracle R12 Upgrade from 11i & Database Versions
    Thursday, January 25, 2007
    Register for R12 upgrade
As promised in past , here is some information on R12 Upgrade process. This Upgrade post revolves around Database version with Oracle Applications (E-Business Suite)

Key points to note in Oracle Apps R12 upgrade from 11i
    -- R 12 upgrade process involve replacing 11i Tech stack (9iAS & 806) to Fusion Middleware (10g Application Server)
-- Basic upgrade process involves Rapid Install & Autopatch
-- Rapid Install involves installing new R12 tech stack as mentioned in first point
-- Auto patch process involves upgrading E-Business Suite database compatible to R12 (Data Model)
-- Final upgrade process is of updating data model using enhanced version of AutoPatch
-- Minimum version from which you can upgrade to R12 is 11.5.7 and higher
-- Minimum database version from which you can upgrade to R12 is 9i
so if your database is still 8i or <>
-- Database must be 10.2.0.2 before or during upgrade process & prior to running AutoPatch which will upgrade datamodel to R12

As per Oracle R12 Upgrade Documentation, Apps 11i Instance is classified in Two Categories based on Apps & DB Version
    Category 1 - 11.5.7, 11.5.8, 11.5.9 (CU1), 11.5.10 (CU1)
    Category 2 - 11.5.9 (CU2), 11.5.10 (CU2) or 11.5.10.2

For Category 1 , database should be upgraded during R12 upgrade process (Downtime for R12 upgrade process will be more as this involve database upgrade as well) but for Category 2 Database can be upgraded before R12 upgrade .

    Why can't I upgrade database to 10.2.0.2 before for category 1 ?
This is because there is no Interoperability patch for above release & 10.2.0.2 was supported for 11.5.9 (CU2) & 11.5.10(CU2) only . (Wish I could be on 11.5.10.2 ;-) )

What are advantages of Upgrading database to 10.2.0.2 before R12 upgrade ?Downtime can be broken down to two small downtimes (one for Database upgrade another one for R12 upgrade) and can be achieved during weekends or long weekends (depending on your system & resources)

Various upgrade paths (mainly 3) revolves around application version & database version (mainly on database version).

    Path A for apps R12 Upgrade :

These are for instances where database is not 10.2 & DB is upgraded during R12 Upgrade
Install the R12 Technology Stack and 10.2.0.2 Oracle home
    Upgrade the Database to 10.2.0.2
    Perform Database Steps
    Complete the R12 upgrade

    Path B for apps R12 Upgrade :
These are for instances 11.5.9.2 & 11.5.10.2 and database is 10.2
Install the R12 Technology Stack and 10.2.0.2 Oracle home
    Perform Database Steps
    Complete the R12 upgrade

    Path C for apps R12 Upgrade :
These are for instances 11.5.9.2 & 11.5.10.2 and database is NOT 10.2, Here upgrade database first to 10.2.
    Upgrade database to 10.2.0.2
Use 11i with 10.2.0.2 DB & then in next downtime window
    Perform Database Steps
    Complete the R12 upgrade

Apps Read only Schema in Oracle Applications
    Wednesday, January 24, 2007
    Register for R12 upgrade
Often third party consulting/development of functional team need Apps Schema access to query underlying tables or database objects. Looking at importance and privileges of Apps Schema you as Oracle Apps DBA might not be interested in passing apps password to any one. You can create APPS read only schema so that users can query content but cannot edit or change anything.

For step by step process on How to create Read only Apps Schema Click here to check steps .
With this post I also want to introduce Anil Passi , He has eight plus year of Oracle Consulting experience & You can check some of his excellent work at http://oracle.anilpassi.com/

Change Oracle APPS Password : FNDCPASS
    Tuesday, January 23, 2007
    Register for R12 upgrade
With Product Family ATG version H Roll Up 3 , Oracle Introduced New Option in FNDCPASS which is ALLORACLE to Change password of all Schema provided by Oracle Application products. These are basically below three category password
--These are mainly schema password for products like AP, GL, AR (These are also termed as of mode ORACLE )
--Password for APPLSYS and APPS (Same password for both schema) . This is also called as Apps Password (used during CM startup)
    --Password for account APPLSYSPUB

How to change Oracle Applications Products/Schema Password including APPS ?
As most of you might already be aware that you use FNDCPASS utility on Concurrent Manager Node.
    FNDCPASS logon 0 Y system/password mode username new_password
Where MODE is SYSTEM/USER/ORACLE/ALLORACLE (Introduced with patch 4745998)

Will ALLORACLE mode change other schema passwords like CTXSYS, MDSYS, PORTAL..,SYS, SYSTEM, SCOTT, Application User like AtulKumar .... ??

No ALLORACLE mode will change only schemas mentioned in paragraph 1 and will not change passwords for schemas like CTXSYS, MDSYS, SYS, SYSTEM.....

Is previous Mode SYSTEM/USER/ORACLE still available with FNDCPASS ?
    Yes

How to get ALLORACLE mode in FNDCPASS ?
    Apply Oracle Apps patch 4745998

What files to change after changing Apps Password ?
You use FNDCPASS apps/apps 0 Y system/manager SYSTEM APPLSYS WELCOME to change Apps Password
--Once you change apps password you need to change apps password stored in file wdbsvr.app at $IAS_ORACLE_HOME/Apache/modplsql/cfg

--In some instances you might have to change in CGIcmd.dat at $ORACLE_HOME/reports60/server

--You also have to change in any custom concurrent manager start up script (If you have any)

    Added on 14th August 2007

--If you have configured E-Business Suite with 10g Application Server SSO/OID then after changing APPS password, update provisioning profile with new apps password

    oidprovtool operation=modify \
    ldap_host={OID Server hostname} ldap_port={OID Server Port} \ ldap_user_dn="cn=orcladmin" ldap_user_password={orcladmin Password} \ application_dn=" {The LDAP distinguished name of the application}" \ interface_connect_info={E-Business Suite connect info of the format, host:port:Sid:username:password}

after changing Apps password bounce Concurrent Managers.

Oracle Apps R12 File System Changes
    Thursday, January 18, 2007
    Register for R12 upgrade
Sometime back I discussed about R12 release dates & few major changes at Click here to check R12 release date and few changes in R12 . In today's post I am going to cover File System changes in R12 and talk about new TOP (INSTANCE_TOP) in Application Tier.

If you are familiar with Oracle Apps 11i , you can easily understand picture on your right. This is file system for 11i with various TOP's , APPL_TOP, ORA_TOP, COMMON_TOP, DB_TOP and DATA_TOP. With Multiple Middle Tier configuration came shared APPL_TOP (only APPL_TOP used to be shared ) . After shared APPL_TOP came shared Application Tier (All three TOP's on Application Tier, APPL_TOP, ORA_TOP and COMMON_TOP were shared across servers). With this came challenge of configuration files which are specific to a server mainly iAS & 806 configuration file. If you have configured Shared Application Tier (sharing ORA_TOP as well) in 11i then this problem was overcome by creating conf directory in COMMON_TOP.

In Oracle Apps R12, You can see new TOP called INSTANCE_TOP in Application Tier. This TOP will now hold any configuration files (specific to that server) , Certificates (If SSL is enabled SSL Certificates & any other certificates specific to that server) and related log files or pid files (for Apache or any other process). In diagram tops with <>ST can be shared across servers (Shared Tier) and INSTANCE_TOP will be specific to Server.

Next three pictures are taken from Ivo Dujmovic's presentation at Oracle Open World "Deep Dive: Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 New Technology Stack". These Pictures are self explanatory & will help you in understanding Oracle Apps R12 File System.

This shows Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 File System Layout

This shows Directory/File Structure for Instance TOP in R12

This Picture compares file system in 11i with File system in R12

    OID Architecture
    Saturday, January 13, 2007
    Register for R12 upgrade
As mentioned in Steven Chan's post that IM 10.1.4 is Certified with Oracle Apps 11i so I think its right time for me to discuss further on Oracle Internet Directory (OID) which is part of Oracle Identity Management . In today's post I'll discuss on OID Architecture and its component.

For my previous post on OID click here Oracle Internet Directory Basics

Oracle Internet Directory Instance : OID Instance serves directory requests through single OID dispatcher process listening at specific TCP/IP port (389 for Non SSL & 636 for SSL) . There can be more than One directory server Instance each listening on different port. In diagram on your left there are two OID Instance, Instance 1 listening on Port 389 and Instance 2 listening on 636. (DBA's can corelate this with database Instance)

Replication Server : This server tracks and sends requests to another LDAP server (iPlanet, Active Directory Server). There can be only one Replication server per OID Node (OID Node is different from OID Instance). You have option to configure Replication Server if required. If your users are in any other LDAP Server like Microsoft Active Directory you can configure to replicate them & configure future replication via OID Replication Server.

OID Monitor : This process monitors, initiates, terminates LDAP servers process. When you start OID using opmn , opmn in turn delegate this to OIDMON which in turn initiates OIDCTL (OID control utility) to start Directory server Instances. As depicted in Architecture Diagram on left OIDMON communicates to OID Server Instances via Operating System.

Database Server : Database server is used to store OID data. Database can be on same server as OID node or on separate server.

OIDCTL : is utility to start/stop OID Instance (oidmon should be running before starting OID server Instance via oidctl) . OIDCTL communicates with OIDMON by placing message data in OID server tables.

Directory Manager : OID Manager is Java based GUI tool to manage Oracle Internet Directory. This is started by command oidadmin (More about this coming soon)

OID Node : All these components mentioned above together comprise one Oracle Internet Directory Node.

Configure SSO authentication Schemes in Apex
    Wednesday, January 10, 2007
    Register for R12 upgrade
Final bit to configure Oracle SSO with Apex/HTMLDB application is to create New Authentication Scheme as "Oracle Application Server Single Sign-On (Application Express Engine as Partner App)"

    For previous steps visit
    http://becomeappsdba.blogspot.com/2007/01/configure-sso-for-apex-application.html
    and then
    http://becomeappsdba.blogspot.com/2007/01/apex-apps-configure-sso-ii.html

I assume you have configured/Installed SSO with Apex, now login to apex application against which you want to use SSO authentication scheme.

Apex/HTMLDB is all GUI (Graphical User Interface) so you can configure/define new authentication scheme in Apex very easily.

On browser type URL http :// servername / pls/ apex
Enter your Worspace Name, UserName & password and you will see below screen

    Click on Application builder

On this screen click on Shared component of Apex Application and it will take you to shared component.
As we are interested in Security component (Authentication) so click on "Authentication Scheme" , you will be in Authentication Schemes page of Oarcle Apex / HTMLDB

From here click on "Create" button. After few screens you have to select Oracle Application server Single Sign-On (Application Express Engine as Partner Application)

Now use this authentication scheme in your application .

    Apex Apps configure SSO II
    Tuesday, January 09, 2007
    Register for R12 upgrade
    Lets continue with yesterday's post
    http://becomeappsdba.blogspot.com/2007/01/configure-sso-for-apex-application.html

Make sure you have configured Partner Application in Single Sign-On Server as mentioned in previous post.
    Unlock flows.... schema
SQL> alter user flows_020200 account unlock; (If your Apex version is 2.0.0.0.0 change acccordingly)

    Login to Middle tier $ORACLE_HOME/sso/lib
    unzip ssosdk902.zip
This will create packages directory & respective sql scripts in this directory connect as database user flows_020200 & execute loadsdk.sql
SQL>@loadsdk.sql (Make sure you are executing under schema flows_XXXX) This will load software development kit for sso server

Now register sso details in Apex Schema (flows_XXX)
    SQL> @regapp.sql
    It will prompt you for
Enter value for listener_token: Enter any distinct name like Apex:host_name:port
    Enter value for site_id: enter_value_returned_while_registering_sso
    Enter value for site_token: enter_value_returned_while_registering_sso
    Enter value for login_url: http: // apex_url_here/pls/orasso/orasso.wwsso_app_admin.ls_login
    Enter value for encryption_key: enter_value_returned_while_registering_sso
    Enter value for ip_check: N

Now configure authentication packages under flows_XXX schema

    SQL> @custom_auth_sso.sql
    SQL> @custom_auth_sso.plb

Finally lock flows_XXXX schema & grant execute permission to public user
    SQL> alter user flows_020200 account unlock;
    SQL> grant execute on wwv_flow_custom_auth_sso to APEX_PUBLIC_USER;

Finally in Apex Application, create new authentication scheme (SSO with Apex as partner Application) instead of local database authentication in Apex Application.

    configuration steps are mentioned at
    http://becomeappsdba.blogspot.com/2007/01/configure-sso-authentication-schemes-in.html

    Configure SSO for Apex Application
    Monday, January 08, 2007
    Register for R12 upgrade
Sometime back I discussed about Apex (earlier HTMLDB) Installation, Click Here to know more about apex Installation . Today I am going to cover how to configure Single Sign-On for Apex Applications. If you are new to Oracle SSO (Single Sign-On) and want to know more about Oracle SSO Click Here for Overview of Oracle SSO

There are mainly three major steps in configuring Apex / HTMLDB
--Register Apex as Partner Application in SSO Server
--Install SSO SDK on Apex Server
--Register SSO details on Apex Middle Tier

    Assumptions in below configuration
Below configuration is based on following assumptions, You may need to change things as per your apex/sso version.

-- Apex version discussed below is for 2.0.2.0.0 (Change schema name flows_020200 according to your version)
-- Apex is installed on 10g AS , if you don't see ssosdk902.zip then get it from 10g AS middle tier -- You have access to Oracle SSO Server with Admin privileges (orcladmin) account
--You have access to schema under which Apex was installed , In my discussion below database schema name for Apex is "apex"
-- URL to access Apex Application is http: // apex_server_name/pls/apex

Configure Apex as Partner application in Oracle SSO Server

Type URL as http: // ssoserver.com/pls/orasso & login as orcladmin, you will see screen like

Click on SSO Server Administration & then you will get Administration Screen

Under that click on "Administer Partner Application "

    Click on Add Partner Application

You will come to Partner application Login Screen enter following details & click on "OK"

    Name : SSO Apex
    HOME URL : http: // apex_server_name/pls/apex
